Fall - brings the lovely Taos Mountain Balloon Rally. Up to 60 balloons ascend into the morning skies. The event normally occurs the last weekend in October. The fall foliage is wonderful throughout September and October. The mountains behind Casita Truchas become a patchwork of gold and green! The Taos Fall Arts Festival, Taos Wool Festival, San Geronimo Days Festivities and the Annual Taos Trade Fall are all popular events during the fall period. Winter - ski season, with Taos Ski Valley only about a 20 minute drive away from the Casita. Angel Fire & Red River Ski areas are about 45 minutes away In fact, Taos Ski Valley just started allowing snowboarding this season! Near Red River is Enchanted Forest Cross Country area and there's an ice-skating rink in the town of Taos. Christmas in Taos is very special with farolitos, festive lights, fireworks and an amazing ceremony at Taos Pueblo. Spring - gradually arrives in April and May. The garden below the Casita deck has lots of flowering bulbs pushing up through the dirt and there are new birds arriving for the Summer, especially the Hummingbirds! The nearby Rio Grande River is famous for white water rafting. And for the entire month of May, Taos celebrates the Spring Arts Festival with special events in all fields of the arts. Summer - is a wonderful time in Taos. The climate is perfect, normally with sunny days, sometimes afternoon showers, and cool, clear nights. There is lots of hiking, horseback riding, golf, gallery wandering and relaxing. The Casita has copies of all the hiking guides and lots of maps. Taos Ski Valley (TSV) offers chairlift rides and there are a couple of good restaurants at TSV which are open for lunch in the summer. Drive the Enchanted Circle, go to the Taos Pow Wow in July, take a day trip to Santa Fe or Ojo Caliente or visit the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge for a great vista. |
